Many of our products will have an Ingress Protection (IP) rating to describe how well it can withstand mechanical and water ingress.
The IP rating can either be found on the Spec Sheet or the Installation Instructions for a product. For example, IP44 means a product is protected against solid objects over 1mm and protected against water splashes from all directions with limited ingress permitted.
Where a product has an “X” in the rating, it simply means that a numerical rating has only been provided where a number is given, ie; IPX2 = Protection from dripping water only. No foreign body / particulate ingress protection specifically given so it was designated “X”.
It is the responsibility of the installing electrician to decide the suitability of a product based on the IP rating and its installation location, based on the guidance provided in the 18th Edition BS7671 regulations. Bathrooms have specific rules which must be followed.
