The installation of a heat pump is now considered “permitted development” within the English planning permission framework. That said, there are still specific rules which must be met which are outlined: https://www.planningportal.co.uk/permission/common-projects/heat-pumps/planning-permission-air-source-heat-pump
Scottish rules are listed here: https://www.gov.scot/publications/guidance-householder-permitted-development-rights-9781780456836/pages/8/
If in doubt, a phone call to your local council Planning Office will be able to advise further if there are any doubts prior to install.
In relation to the installation location, when installing one of our heat pumps, the Manufacturers Installation instructions must be followed together with MIS3005 rules regarding the installation location of heat pumps, a copy of which can be found here: https://mcscertified.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/MIS-3005-I-Heat-Pump-Installation-Issue-1.0.pdf
